If anyone is interested in having a look at and testing the next AV Linux release there is a pretty major new development coming and that is the addition of the XFCE4 DE alongside Enlightenment. For those who have been turned off by Enlightenment but still like AVL then this is an olive branch of compromise. I am at beta3 currently so most of the obvious bugs have been worked out but I need in-depth content creators to really get under the hood and coax out the rest of the bugs.
To remain relevant here these beta ISOās also contain Ardour 9.7.2 and the new Noise Repellent

Just downloaded and installed it on Lenovo P330 Tower, i5-8500U, 16GB of ram, Intel UHD 630 with Mesa drivers.
Everything is working great out of the box.
Ram usage on idle is around 1GB, but i can see this is not a vanilla xfce4 - itās nicely customized. Very nicely customized. I like itā¦meaning - iād keep this .
Wi-fi works great via old TP-LINK TL-WN722N usb adapter.
Dual monitor setup works with no problems.
Installed Ardour 9.8 from Ardourās site - works good.
Itās also a nice touch to turn system output volume control down to 25% on first encounter, if that was you. No need for anybody to blow their ears or speakers .
Once again, the only problem i see is with LSP bundle plugins (stock from AVLās iso) - VST3 versions.
GUIās are glitchy and unresponsive etc, and eventualy bring the whole app downā¦same issue i had before few LSP versions earlier if anybody remembersā¦again, thatās something to investigate deeply, but itās not realy related to the system itself. I suspect itās the same problem linked with OpenGL rendering once againā¦
Anyways @GMaq i think this is great, at least for what i can see in about an hour/two of usage.
And one more questionā¦i see a number of synth plugins installed, but no SurgeXTā¦Why? Surge is maybe no better than Vitalium, but it is pretty straight-forward, more user friendly and sure as hell - fun.
Well, I actually pull a lot of random stuff together like extra Plugins and apps that arenāt in Repos and it adds up to a lot of time and babysitting release announcements to stay current. I will agree that SurgeXT is kind of an obvious oversight, I will remedy that with the final 25.3 release. Thanks very much for your time to test and report.
As far as LSP, the very latest should be available if you use the MX Package Installer and go to the MX Test repo. Perhaps they will work better for you.

I read your reasoning for adding xfce at the MX forum. I think it is a very good choice to stick to Enlightenment, which i always liked and i wondered why it isnāt used more by more users, but to just add xfce as an option for the ones who canāt stand it at all. Not that it would be too hard to install any DE or WM you prefer, but on a live-ISO it is a nice option. Not sure if it is needed to give you support for that decision. Just a little feedback there are folks around who like the Enlightenment choice a lot.

I really appreciate you saying that, the āfansā of Enlightenment are pretty quiet so that is music to my ears. I wasnāt aware the download VPS was down but I currently have no internet from bad storms (aside from my phone). I will look into it as soon as service is restored. You havenāt missed the late beta stage in fact Iām currently reworking everything because Iāve finally gotten around to creating a Repository after far too many years without one so there is some more building and testing to do before 25.3 is released.
For the record, when I was on Linux more often, I did use e16 for a while, and was a large fan of e17 and the potential I saw there and the EFL (Even ran it on my Mac for a time). I havenāt been a significant Linux user in some time in terms of my daily drivers, but if I was e17 is still one of the things I would strongly consider.
I donāt mind Enlightenment, itās ok, itās just that it behaved buggy to meā¦and thereās also the fact that i like xfce better which hasnāt been buggy at all.

Hi, you would be perfect for my secondary āMX Mokshaā project which is using the e17 fork āMokshaā as popularized by Bodhi Linux. Bodhi is having some challenges right now and hasnāt had a new release in a few years but Iām on good terms with the Bodhi developers and theyāve been very helpful to me getting MX Moksha of the ground.

Iām asking this cause iām of the same nature, curious, and with the habit of trying and messing around with everything iām interested in. Lately, i slowly but surely began to reorganize, optimize and generally scale it all down. My own mentality was definitely taking a toll on me and the quality of my life. So, many things began to finally move forward a little bit instead of being constantly cluttered, and iām finally beginning to be able to hear my own thoughts again, which i remember i always could, until my āfun projectsā became a really heavy burden.
Yea sadly I am just not in Linux day to day anymore. I still run it on a few machines, but none of them desktops at this point. Occasional VMs etc. but really it is just my day to day driver is actually an iPad and I have a Mac Laptop for when I need powerhouse, as well as my office computer at my work is a Mac Desktop. So not to many opportunities for that these days sorry.
You know you are a very thoughtful person to even consider thinking about how much of someone elseās time has been spent doing something. The people in your life are fortunate to have someone with that kind of empathy.
I do have too many things on the go and if Iām honest I really should of been working smarter instead of harder especially on AVL. When I started in 2007 the Linux world was infinitely DIY and weird little homespun Distributions and bootable OSās were āwhat made computing funā to paraphrase Distrowatch. Things are nothing like that now. My real job world had absolutely nothing to with computers except maybe some accounting and I brought a lot of stubborn pragmatic thinking to software that was from a good work ethic but I should have adopted standard practices like using git and creating a Repository many years ago. Two things have happened in the past year that have been life-changing for me as a Maintainer, one is Iāve semi-retired and two is AI (hear me out). Iām on record here as not liking generative AI, and my feelings havenāt changed on that. On the other hand having something to ask how to create a repository with infinite patience and no limit on how stupid your questions can be or to fix your stupid mistake in your bash script for someone like me is an amazing resource and it really helps me work smarter and get way more done. My goals are to make AVL better and get with the times, you wonāt see me making AI Plugins or DAW abandonware ever but I will certainly be using AI to polish and make AVL work better.
Yeah, i know AI can actually be useful and help, especially as an advanced search tool. My standpoint isnāt that itās all bad when it comes to AI, far from it. Anyways, thatās a long long discussion. Nevermind AI, letās get back to stuff for humans, like AVL .
