What is the difference between Trim and Fader in Automation, seem the same gain control, I can find info about Fader in the manual, tutorials,… but nothing
about Trim, or better nothing about Trim in Automation.
Trim is the input gain control at the top of a mixer strip. It was added during the development of Ardour 4.5, and like almost all new features, is not documented in the manual.
Ok thank you Paul,
but I can setup the input gain only with Automation slide, in the mixer box there isn’t a widget for control it, the noble close the input menu is still to 0.0 db
Just move the knob more. It is not sensitive to mouse motion near to the beginning of the drag.
The Trim has a detent at 0dB when dragging (~40px mouse movement, mouse-wheel is not affected)
Note that trim does not affect the input itself (like on analog devices). Trim is applied after disk i/o.
The use-case for trim is to allow to adjust the level for pre-fader plugins (eg. compressors) and free the fader to be used only for mixing.
Ok works, I use a wacom tablet and some movement depends of the pression.
Good.
