AudioEngine error! coreaudio refusing to work!

I just put on JackOSX and Ardour. It looks very impressive!

When I created a new project, all went fine until I got into the main application window. I got greeted with the following error message:

[ERROR]: AudioEngine: cannot connect ardour:auditioner/out 1 (ardour:auditioner/out 1) to coreaudio:Built-in Audio:in1 (coreaudio:Built-in Audio:in1)
[ERROR]: AudioEngine: cannot connect ardour:auditioner/out 2 (ardour:auditioner/out 2) to coreaudio:Built-in Audio:in2 (coreaudio:Built-in Audio:in2)

I am not quite sure how to go about fixing this. I checked the routing in JackPilot, and it definitely recognizes the fact that my Agregated Audio Device should have the stereo output going through my MacBook Pro’s output, and that the input should come through my M-Audio Firewire 410 external recording unit. Outside of that, though, I know not how to troubleshoot this. I read the documentation for JackOSX, and this did not help me resolve the issue either.

Does anybody know where I should start in solving this problem?

Thanks!

I get those errors also, but I don’t seem to notice any problems… are you not getting sound in or out of the computer?

Josh

I’ve contacted tech support on this, having had the same error message.

One suggestion was that, if there were no obvious problems with running Ardour then the error could, perhaps for now, be ignored.

A further suggestion was that the ‘error’ was due to using an ‘Aggregate Device’.

Have you selected ‘Aggregate Audio Device’ as the preferred Interface in Jack Preferences?

Hi, and thanks to both of you for your suggestions and posts!

Yes, I am using an aggregated device in Jack. However, luckily for me, output sound still works. I had just congiured the outputs incorrectly for Jack, which is why I couldn’t play the recordings from Ardour back. Now I’m monitoring them and everything - some VERY impressive software! And I haven’t even downloaded the plugins yet (but this is because they aren’t available yet for Intel Macintosh, haha).

Thanks again!

Aman,

Would you (or anyone else using a M-audio card) mind going through your setup with me? I’m using the Delta-1010. I get the same error message, but sometimes audio works and sometimes it doesn’t. When it does work, it can be a bit glitchy regardless of my latency settings. I’m attempting to run this on a dual G4 450 under OSX (10.4) and at this point am only attempting to use Ardour to playback previously recorded material. If it cannot do this reliably, I may as well go back to Cubase on OS9.

Eventually, I’d like to shuttle audio back and forth digitally between Ardour and the Akai HD recorders, but one hurdle at a time is enough for me. Please note I am still quite new to macs.

Hello,

I do have a similar problem, I can choose in Jack’s preferences / Interface only between Built-in Output OR Input OR Microphone. I want to have it all available in Ardor. How can I do this?

Intel-MacBook, Jack ver. 0.101.3; Router ver. 0.8.3; Ardour 0.99.3

That is actually not an error, it should be labeled as a warning so that it isn’t so scary. All it says is that our factory default connections for the Auditioner don’t make sense on your system. The auditioner is a special bus that the region preview feature uses for output. Just go in the Window->Options Editor and the Audition tab to connect it to the proper hardware output (or anywhere else) of your choice. You won’t see the warnings again (until you change your JACK device).

As for the person with the macbook, you need to make an Aggregate device that include both the input and the output, and then use that with JACK. Use the Applications/Utilities/Audio MIDI Setup application, go to the Audio menu, and choose the Open Aggregate Device Editor to do it. You can add all 3 devices (the builtin output, line input and mic input) to the device for maximum flexibility.

OK I’m sort of in the same boat. Right now I have an M-Audio 1814 Firewire working great with Garageband if I istall Jack or CtrlJack with Ardour with this screw up the current config or run parralel cleanly?

When I tried the Jack input and output configuration last time, a couple months ago, I found it confusing for some reason but CtlJack seemed hard to load up.

Thank you. (Intel 10.46 by the way)

If you don’t turn on Jack or set it as the default sound source in System Preferences, it won’t affect Garageband at all.
