I have made a larger mix, which I now want to play (export).
Now I realise that there is a small, audible click at one point in the playout.
If I don’t export the complete song, but only a range of approx. 20 bars in which the crackling can be heard, then this cannot be heard in the target file.
If I let Ardour play the song, everything is fine.
What can I do?

I was able to eliminate the crackling sound. It was a detective job: I muted the tracks one after the other and then exported each one. At some point it was clear: it was coming from the bass track. I combined individual snippets with the ‘combine’ function. When I exported this combined region, the crackling was there too. I then did ‘uncombine’. And then it was gone. Strange.
Had almost the same problem once. Just like in your case, it was audible only in full export or sometimes (maybe once in 10 times) when playing the song from beginning to end. So it was extremely hard to find the cause. After long detective work it was nailed down to the synth bass track, but it was a regular region (not combined or spliced, etc). Surprisingly, the waveform looked just fine, no sudden peaks or visible glitches, nothing. Solved the problem by just overdubbing this part and even combined it with a rest of the region. It never appeared again.
Yeah, the world is full of such small nasty mysteries.
