Has anyone here any experience with the titular setup as to confirm if they work well in tandem or have any problems?
Yes 
Both my laptop and desktop run LMDE 6 and a 2i2 and 18i8 respectively, 2nd or 3rd Gen I believe. Class compliant devices so just plug and play.
The only faff was needing to adjust levels on the 18i8 usung ALSA Mixer because the outs were set to 0 by default for some unknown reason.
There is also a GUI application which may be easier to use than ALSA mixer.
