Ardour + KDE plasma 5

(System: Ubuntu Studio 24.04.2 LTS; KDE-Plasma 5.27.12; QT-Version 5.15.13; KDE-Frameworks-Version 5.115.0; Ardour 8.12.0)

Hello,
I have been an enthusiastic Ardour user since about 2007 and have recently started using Ardour with Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS, i.e. for the first time with KDE Plasma. I have the following problem (which for the first time I could not solve myself…): The Ardour plugins cannot be kept on the surface while working. As soon as I click on a function in the main programme, for example, all open plug-ins disappear from the screen. That’s pretty annoying…
I have therefore followed the instructions from the Ardour manual for KDE Plasma 5 (Ardour Configuration/System Specific Setup/KDE Plasma 5), but without success: As before, all displayed plug-ins disappear as soon as the main or mixer window is clicked again. Who knows what to do?
Best regards
Marco

I have this same problem with Ubuntu Studio because it uses KDE Plasma. I would be happy to receive a solution. However, it seems to be in the hands of the KDE developers.

Edit: I made a mistake in my explanation, i’ll fix it later

Try Ardour Preferences > Appearance > Quirks > All floating windows are dialogs

Hi Robin,
I kneel down: That’s it…! I don’t think I would have thought of that myself. Many thanks!

Surprised no one’s mentioned this yet, but KDE Plasma (and several other window managers) has an option to keep windows on top, even when they’re not focused:

Drag that to where you want it on the simulated titlebar there, click Apply, and now it’s on the real titlebar.

Another one that I like is:

So I can see two things in the same place at the same time.

KDE Plasma does a LOT! Poke around and see what else you find…
