@anahata: like weiner, i have no argument against using dither. i just agree with his assessment that you can’t hear it. note that the noise he mixes in (not related to dither) is absolutely godawful, and i think he reports that almost nobody can hear it at -90dB, even “against” a quite passage of peaceful classical music. this is still way louder than dither noise. but sure, this doesn’t constitute a reason not to add dither.
