Both with an existing project and when creating a new session

tl;dr:

Ardour9 --gdb

(gdb) run

and when it crashes, back in gdb:

thread apply all bt

You could try and rename your /home/arjen/.config/ardour9 to /home/arjen/.config/_ardour9 before starting Ardour :
mv /home/arjen/.config/ardour9 /home/arjen/.config/_ardour9

There have been instances where the the config files have been corrupted and introduced crashes.
If that doesn’t help you probably need to try the debug routine Robin mentioned, after renaming _ardour9 back to ardour9.
