Hi,
I bought Ardour 6 some years back and as I haven’t used it for a while and was about to start a new project I wanted to support you and so paid for the latest version.
Initially on trying to open one of my old Ardour 6 sessions it crashed silently. I assumed probably some sort of plugin problem and so tried safe mode.
This worked and opened, converted and backed up the session. I didn’t try playing it as all plugins were of course missing at that point.
I then opened a new session and went through the plugin manager and fixed the couple of stale and error states I could see. All plugins now report as OK and I can open new session files fine.
I then re-tried opening the old session and it now crashes even in safe mode. The crashlog shows it as crashing in evoral-0.dll.
I tried copying the backup of the session that Ardour 8 made when it first successfully opened it, but that crashes as well and does not show any attempt to convert the session before doing so. I can still open it in Ardour 6.
I’m at somewhat of a loss now. I don’t really need Ardour 8’s features and really only bought it to help support you and because my lost familiarity with version 6 would make the learning curve less of an issue.
If I can only use it for new projects though, and can’t continue any of the in-progress sessions from version 6 then it will be more hassle than it’s worth to me I’m afraid.
Any suggestions welcome!
Thanks,
Dennis
