Ardour 7 check session before opening

Ardour is nicely backwards compatible and opening older projects in newer versions are usually well handled with a new session being created and the old renamed. But opening newer projects with an older Ardour sometimes just crashes.

Until I’m satisfied Ardour 7.x is stable enough to completely replace Ardour 6.9 I want to have both versions installed, but if I accidentally open a 7.x session with 6.9 it… just crashes.

Obviously I should create an Ardour 7 folder in /home to avoid any confusion - will implement that!

But maybe Ardour 7 could get a kind of check so that when trying to open Ardour 8 files it would give a message something like “This file format is not recognised”? Or the file extension could be .ardour7 etc.
