Ardour 6.3.133-dbg can't find Pianoteq7 plugin

I’ve been using Modartt’s Pianoteq plugin since version 5 or so with Ardour. I recently bought Pianoteq7 and tried to use in it Ardour (I’m currently on 6.3.133-dbg) on Ubuntu 20.10. I was unable to get Ardour to recognize that Pianoteq7 was available. I also foolishly started fiddling with things without backing up my original configuration.

Is anyone else successfully using Pianoteq? If so, where do you put your LV2 or .so file to get it recognized by Ardour?

I had been using ~/.lv2, but can’t seem to get it working. I’ve even broken my old configuration.

Here’s a sample log from ardour startup:

kbaird@eos:~$ bind txt domain [gtk2_ardour6] to /opt/Ardour-6.3.133-dbg/share/locale

Any suggestions? (I’m trying to get either my old Pianoteq6 or the new 7 working.)

See if lv2ls (list all lv2 plugins) finds it:

lv2ls | grep Pianoteq

What does ls -l ~/.lv2/Pianoteq* show?

From your log:

Perhaps you’ve copied it in a subfolder of ~/.lv2/?

Here I get

ls ~/.lv2/Pianoteq\ 6.lv2/
manifest.ttl
'Pianoteq_6_(5_channels).ttl'
Pianoteq_6.so
Pianoteq_6.ttl

I’ve just downloaded the demo version of Pianoteq7. I can see there is both lv2 and vst version. Are you sure to have put the lv2 in the right folder ? or the vst ?

looks like you’ve installed the 32bit (i386) version on a 64bit system.

Here’s how I installed it to test:

cd /tmp/
7z x ~/Downloads/pianoteq_linux_trial_v673.7z
mv Pianoteq\ 6/amd64/Pianoteq\ 6.lv2/ ~/.lv2

PS. In your case you’ll have to remove the current version first.

Thank you, Robin. It’s working now, both version 6 and version 7.

It turns out that my biggest problem was that I had extracted with 7z e rather than 7z x. I was wondering why my *.lv2 directories were empty. Now I know.

Thank you again.
