Anyone using ugritone drums on linux?

hello. full disclosure: I’m not an expert on any facet of this. I can barely get things to work properly on a good day so please, if you respond, dumb it down. WAY down lol.
I bought one of ugritone’s drum vsts and after a while of fiddling I was able to load it into ardour9 and play it from my roland ekit. the latency was severe but that is something I can tweak until it’s playable. I recorded a midi track, exported a wav, saved the session and closed ardour.
however, opening the session this morning was not good- ardour couldn’t find the ugritone plugin. the data I had recorded was there- the meters were showing activity- but ardour said it had replaced the plugin with a stub??? when I spent twenty minutes pointing it to the right place again, it seems all of the midi mapping I had done for the first session was lost and now I’ve got myself so confused.
does ardour want ugritone as a vst, vst2 or vst3? what is the difference?
why didn’t ardour save the paths I set previously?
is there any way to save settings within ugritone? there are options to save presets and (something to do with) midi but when I clicked those buttons nothing seemed to happen, unless they were saved somewhere I just haven’t looked yet.
the ugritone plugin sounds amazing but so far at least I’m finding it very hard to wrap my head around. (being able to resize the window would be great, but tbh I had the same complaint of sd2 in reaper and cw on windows)
tho ugritone offers a linux option it seems they are not 100% capable of supporting/guaranteeing its implementation. not a knock on them, just my initial impression. maybe in time more users will help change that.
