AMD processors; a problem?

I am looking at buying a new machine. The Ardour download page says it is compatible any 64 bit Intel/AMD or ARM GNU/Linux release but at https://ardour.org/requirements.html it lists as a computer requirement:

Any 32 or 64 bit Intel or ARM compatible computer.

I just want to check whether I would have any problems running Ardour 8 on an AMD processor. Specifically I’m looking at the AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS in a laptop.

Many thanks

I have been running Ardour with AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2950X 16-Core Processor for many years without any problems. The “Intel” in that sentence suggests just Intel architecture meaning any current Intel or AMD processor.

Ah good news! Thanks

I’m running Ardour on a Ryzen 7 for 2 years, everything good here.

Thanks for the heads up, I’ve just clarified the information on the requirements page.

Those CPUs use Intels x86 instruction set, and are Intel compatible.

In the past there were also other vendors (notably VIA), to provide x86 CPUs, but these days it’s just Intel and AMD who serve the consumer market.
