(For now will post this on forum)
(Also I apologize if I am overlooking something)
I noticed that on occasion when I used the Add Track window and paid attention, I at times have noticed that there was something a little awkward on how this window felt, and I think I recently noticed one of the reasons.
(Before proceeding, I like the look of this window and I understand why its layout was done this way. Also mimics the look of the Preferences window, with the sidebar on the left.)
However the sidebar/category location is actually the awkward thing I noticed, so although I do like the look of this windows layout, maybe this observation will be considered to be looked into.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
-If user double clicks on the blank track space
-This opens the Add Track window with mouse cursor in general center of this window (around the Configuration: text).
-If the sidebar has Audio Tracks selected and user wants to create new audio track(s) then this behavior makes sense.
-However if user wants to create a different kind of track, and the Audio Tracks sidebar category is selected
OR
(Because this window remembers last used setting) say user previously selected MIDI Tracks and now wants to create Audio Tracks
now this is where this dialog becomes a little awkward.
-Mouse cursor is in center and then user has to move mouse up to upper left corner of this window (sometimes with an awkward wrist movement)
-But then has to move mouse cursor back down to where the cursor started in the “Configuration:” section to adjust the settings.
Usually I am not agreed with so I am not going to spend a bunch of time saying how I would change the layout, but I will share the following.
Most of the editable parameters in this window are at the bottom, so maybe do something like align the “Template/Type” text with the “Configuration:” text.
This way the sidebar categories are closer to the “Configuration:” parameters on the right.
Hope this observation was in some way helpful
