Add an APC Key 25 binding map

Sorry I’m new on this forum,

I read the topic Midi Binding Map for AKAI APC Key 25 Mk2 (which is closed)

But I don’t resolve my problem : using an APC Key 25 to control ardour9

  • My APC Key 25 is little different (the topic is for APC Key 25 MK2)
  • I not sure of what kind of properties I’ve to change in the MK2 binding map
  • I don’t sure where I put it (in ardour system /ardour9/midi_maps or in my ~/.config/ardour9/midi_maps
  • Don’t know how I can choose this binding map when I launch ardour

Thanks for answer

On my system, using the binary installer from here, the midimap files shipped with Ardour are in /opt/Ardour-x.y.x/share/midi_maps/.

The correct location to put a local one I have edited is /home/<my-username/.config/ardour{x}/midimaps/.

Maybe these two videos from the Ardour channel would be helpful?

Welcome to the forum. Sorry for delay in answering. I haven’t used this keyboard in a while, and I just got a chance to test that my map still works in Ardour 9. It appears to be fine.

The general recipe is

  • Close Ardour
  • Put the midi map xml contents into a file in ~/.config/ardour9/midi_maps/akai_apc_key_25.map
(I think the midi_maps directory needs the underscore. And the file has to have a .map extension. The rest of the file name is arbitrary)
  • Start Ardour
  • edit > preferences > control surfaces >
  • double click generic midi

Incoming MIDI on: APC key 25 mk2 Control (In)
Outgoing MIDI on: Disconnected
MIDI Bindings: AKAI APC Key 25 mk2

That should be it.

You mention you have a slightly different version… is it the mk3 or something else?

Thanks for correcting my typo: yes, indeed, the local config directory is /home/<me/.config/ardour9/midi_maps (with underscore).
