Probably a stupid question but since I can’t get out of it, here it is 
I prepared a series of cues that I want to play and would like also to record the result … Strangely enough, I don’t understand how to do that.

Yeah, it isn’t obvious at this point, and we’re not happy with the options.
The most general solution: add a new (audio) track. Disconnect its outputs, connect the inputs to the master out. This track will now record whatever you heard/do/play.

I know, there is no stupid question.
Alternatively you can just Session > Export and then re-import the result.
Ardour 7’s Export dialog has an option to re-import exported file.
