8.11 crashes on Mac Sequoia (15.3.1)

It was occasionally crashing when selecting track inputs (Scarlett 4i4), but now i can’t even look at inputs without it crashing. I reinstalled with the same results.

Intel I7 h/w.

Any pointers appreciated.

You are not alone, some others also reported that showing the connection matrix can cause crashes on macOS/Intel.

…so far the problem has eluded us. There is nothing mac specific there, and all other platforms (incl. AppleSilicon mac/ARM) are fine.

Does this only happen with the Scarlett 4i4?

interestingly, after a few dozen crashes, ardour no longer sees hardware. the OS still sees it and is able to use it (tried zoom). But… Focusrite Control (their s/w) also doesn’t see the hardware. I’m going to go down that road a bit (reinstall) and come back

updated the control s/w and fixed that end, and also realized that the startup was defaunting to another interface, so changing that at startup brings back the hardware (4i4) interface. (my bad). But it still crashes when in the input selector, and I’m not finding any consistent action or pattern that causes it.

FWIW - i updated to 8 because since i last ran 7.2 i started getting: "The application “Finder” does not have permission to open “(null).” when i try to launch 7.2. I also reinstalled 7.2 and it gives the same error.

Any ideas?

To give another data point: I also get crashes fairly often (but not always), when using the connections window, which I usually open via right-clicking the input / output buttons in the track mixer section in the edit view,

But I am on (Manjaro) Linux. Because I use a version of Ardour from the distribution package or compiled from the Git sources, I never bothered to report this.

Usually Ardour will not crash immediately, but will freeze for a few seconds after opening the connections window or changing a tab therein and then crash.
