Ardour-8.2.5-x86_64.run works, Ardour-8.9.32-x86_64.run not.
I don’t have binaries in between.
And oddly, current git master also works as expected (not suggesting that anyone should be using that).
I will happily wait for version 9, then.
Haha, 8.2.5 was a handpicked nightly I’m pretty sure I deleted, I have another cherry-picked 8.6.XX somewhere, will try it later…
Obviously the tempo work I did in the Studio was on an older version because it worked as expected.
The problematic commit/change has been identified. Ardour 8.3 would have worked, 8.4 and later versions do not.
Thanks for the confirmation and version info.
Any chance that 8.2.5 could be thrown up somewhere temporary? It appears mine is gone and I have several new drum tracks to map for a project.
*Bonus feature; 8.2.5 still works with Calf Plugins!
It’s possible 8.2.5 is on the last AV Linux release, but I don’t have the Deb anymore… ![]()
Worst case I suppose I could probably dpkg-repack it back into existence from a Live ISO…
And since it is working on the new branch, I suppose you do not need a bug report. But let me know if you do and I will submit it.
I have sent you an e-mail.
Received with many thanks!! ![]()
Thank you @GMaq for the quick and helpful response, I really appreciate your support.
Following advice on the mx blog page (https://mxlinux.org/blog/6-12-kernel-rollout-is-not-without-issues-with-nvidia-drivers-sigh/)
I installed kernel 6.11
So far I have found Ardour edit window stable at all zoom levels

I never had these graphics problems with AVL21.3 and I knew it well and enjoyed it. Sadly recently, I’m finding more apps just wont run on Debian11 due to library issues so I’m gradually increasing my use of AVL23
I spoke too soon. Its reverted back to its jittery ways. ![]()
Had the same issues with graphics when my nvidia driver was not installed, very juddery and slow, almost unuseable, especially when there were a few midi tracks going… Got the nvidia 535.216.03 driver in now and it absolutely flies, am using AV Linux 21.3 (xfce)…
I have had no problems with AVL21.3, its all with AVL 23 for me, even with
liquorix 6.3.9 kernel.
Am just about to install AV 23, will let you know how I get on… or not…
I am now using A8.2.5 on AVL 23 ( i think thats the bundled version in
AVL23).
The edit screen doesnt appear to jitter so far. I will keep on with it for
a while and see if it deteriorates.
I do have a feeling that the jittering is somehow involved with markers.
I will see if anything i do seems to trigger the problem
and report back
Yes, somewhat luckily 8.2.5 was the version I handpicked for AVL 23. It fixed an issue in 8.2, it still worked with Calf (for those who care) and as it turns out in hindsight it works properly with tempo mapping. It might be the version to hang on to until Ardour 9 and I think it also predates these recent region sizing corruption errors.
I have the Ardour version 8.2.0 next to the ver. 8.10 on the Win10 computer and there the ramp still works as shown in the manual with the left mouse button. In 8.10 the ramp only works via the context menu of the right mouse button.
Yes thankyou Glen
It still seems to be ok with only the slightest graphics issues, so Im
sticking with this on AVL23 and run A8.10 on AVL21 if needed
The last four projects I wrapped up successfully used tempo-mapping and were created in 8.6
.
Two were last saved in 8.10, so they’ve probably seen all the released versions in-between, though the mapping itself will all have been done right at the start in 8.6 and then left alone, with just over-dubbing in later versions.
I always use the downloads from here and I’m on UbuntuStudio 24.04.1.
