Qjackctl or Alsa, sound problems either way

Right now, I have an Ardour 6.5 recording that I sent to my wife’s laptop because I have no sound on my laptop. It sounds fine on hers, and sounds fine on 7 other people I sent it to. It was recorded with Alsa, no Jack.
My buddy even tweaked it and sent it back to me. That tweaked version sounds great on any thing but my ubuntustudio laptop.
Now I opened a new session on the aforementioned ubuntustudio machine, and I can tell that it is picking up the laptop’s sound on all three channels after my usb interface, and recording the tracks, BUT, still no sound from this laptop, or from youtube, or anything else on this laptop.
Volume control shows good volume and youtube on Firefox is working.
This is a Linux sound issue isn’t it…?

It has been a long day, so I am headed for sleep. I will check this in the morning here on the West Coast Canada.

OK so far so good. Next check where the audio is going from there.

While Ardour is running, run the following command in a terminal window:

cd /tmp && wget https://community.ardour.org/files/adevices.sh && bash ./adevices.sh

This will not modify your system; it lists all soundcards, their current settings and applications using them.

That should show us which soundcard Ardour is using (and with what settings).
