I’m also a large scale console user as you defined “poor people”. But my console is way more convenient than Ardour on grouping or linking Channels. BTW. I’m using Harrison MPC 4D.
The MPC 4D is more convenient because the VCAs are already there.
If you use a session template with them in place, its hard to see what’s more convenient (we designed the VCA mechanism with lots of input from Harrison).
The one concession i will make there is that on a physical console, chances are that the VCA controls are always (a) visible (b) within reach. This is not always the case in a DAW, depending on monitor size etc. etc.
The session template is the kind of thing that would make many things easier if i remember to use them.
