O waow, i have played it in Hydrogen with the blonde bob kit, and it sounds incredible.
I think to play this as a real drummer that would save you 10 workout sessions…LOL
Anyway thank you Glen.
nice, beautiful, great job…amazing.
How do you get Addictive Drums installed? I theoretically own it, but the xln installer doesn’t work under wine.
Hi,
You’re right, the installer is a bit persnickety about Wine versions, when I have a Wine version that works on my Studio box I pin the version so it doesn’t get updated and for recent Addictive Drums 2 I’ve been using Wine-Staging 9.2 because it allows the AD2 installer to work and also works well with the Plugins I need working, it is likely that any Wine version newer than 9.2 will also work but be warned Wine versions newer than 9.21 have broken the functionality of yabridge and WinVST Plugins so don’t go higher than 9.21…
Thanks. The installer still shows a black window then dies with a failure dialog with W-S 9.2 (In Arch Linux).
Just in case anyone else feels like trying the following solution:
I booted AV Linux from an iso file, mounted my home directory, installed AD into a new wine bottle in it, booted back into my normal system, changed all the paths including ‘demo’ to reference my user name instead, and inserted AD into Ardour.
And it played, and I could “Edit with generic controls.” The native GUI came with a dialog over it asking if I want the tour, which did not react to keyboard or mouse. So I did the tour back in AV Linux, and then it consistently crashed in Arch. Trashed.
Wow, that’s odd… I just ran the XLN Audio installer/updater here on my Studio box for the AD2 2.6 update running under Wine-Staging 9.2.
Are you using the most recent XLN Audio online installer? Are you logged in to your XLN Audio account?
Yes and yes. Wine is sometimes hard to please. One or more of the other differences between my system and yours is throwing a spanner in the works. Maybe one day I’ll find out what. Probably by accident, if past wine problems are any guide.
This is all off topic really. I particularly liked the feeling of space in the bridge…
Great tune, Glen! Really nice work - it may just be a loose/rough mix but honestly it sounds great and well-balanced. The few ‘imperfections’ that I hear don’t take anything away from the mix nor the music and in all honesty, it’s wee imperfections in music that often add to the animated / alive feeling.
I’ve also started using Mixbus 10 recently (track/record in Ardour → mix in Mixbus) and have started to really fall in love with it
Prog / classic rock isn’t usually my cup of tea (I’m more into metal / noise) but I really enjoyed listening to How Are You Weathering, Sister Nice guitar sound, well-recorded. I actually really like the drum sound - it’s tight and intimate and sounds very compressed and works really well for that tune. Good vocal performance too - I think there’s room for an overly-dramatic, high-energy lead vocal in this song but your vocal tracks absolutely work great as-is.
Thanks very much! Yeah I’m kind of in vocal baritone range and not a great singer at the best of times but certainly not a high frequency wailer…lol
*WARNING If you use Addictive Drums 2 DO NOT update to the new v2.6, on my system it locks up and stops producing Audio every several seconds where the previously installed version worked so well it was like a native Plugin.
I was under the impression 2.6 was simply an incremental update and AD2 has had a very good reputation of working with Wine for many years (until now I guess). When you use out-of-platform Plugins these are exactly the kind of innocent mistakes that are easy to make. I’ve preached “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” for years so the irony of me relaxing for one upgrade and having this happen is pretty rich…
All is not lost, I always have a Plan B but be warned if your AD2 is working LEAVE IT BE!
*FOLLOW UP,
Some unexpected good news… I reached out to XLN Audio about my situation and asked if rolling back to AD2 v2.4 was possible fully expecting once the word ‘Linux’ was mentioned that would be that… I very quickly received a reply and they kindly placed an override on my registered Studio computer which forced a downgrade from 2.6 to 2.4 and full functionality was restored…
They really weren’t obligated to help me at all and I was completely transparent that I was using AD2 off-platform and I still received a quick reply and an effective solution. Now I’m impressed with the software and the service!
I will not be pressing my luck again, I was very lucky this time!
Nice to listen to. I don’t know the genre much, but I feel it odd that instruments are more forward than the vocals… e.g. drums and others are very clear and in my face, and sound great… the vocals seem to be subdued compared to them. It does sound consistent though, so I’m guessing that must be part of the genre. But it is quite enjoyable musically as it is. Thank you!
