@paul - I don’t have experience with automation on the consoles that mike and bdp refer to, but what you are suggesting sounds like a “win” in my work flow - which is mostly related to recording, not composing. I’ve even wondered at various times whether something like this could be done (without breaking someone else’s work flow). So +1 from me, FWIW.
