I’ve not seen this before and cannot reproduce it. I tried with and without snap, and various zoom levels, and notes do follow the mouse-cursor.
Does this always happen on your system? With every session?
I did some tests and I found the cause. In the piece I’m working on I have some ramped tempo changes. If I remove the tempo changes there is no drift. So looks like a bug.

OK. reproduced.
If the tempo-change starts at 0, the mouse-offset also allows to drag notes to negative time positions. I’ve seen sessions with that but now have an explanation how this happened.
I’m still unsure how hard it will be to fix it.

The main issue was fixed in Ardour 8.6-371-g59e50c0e16 (https://nightly.ardour.org build will be available around 12h from now). The mouse is now in sync with the dragged note.
